What processors and operating systems are supported on NetFORCE™ systems?
Citadel NetFORCE™ systems offer advanced AMD SEMPRON and mobile Turion single and dual-core processors. All are fully compatible and capable of running all industry standard operating systems (Windows®/Linux/Citrix®).
Our scalable architecture supports a versatile range of price, performance and power options.
What are the overall physical dimensions of NetFORCE™ systems (H x W x D)?
NetFORCE-12™ 10.0" high x 12.0" wide x 3.00" deep NetFORCE-15™ 12.5" high x 15.0" wide x 3.25" deep
What are the standard operating voltage requirements of NetFORCE™ systems?
All NetFORCE™ systems operate directly from DC power and can be readily installed in fixed and mobile applications without the need for traditional 110/220 volt AC power. Fixed-mount AC-powered installations are supported with a compact external universal power supply that accepts AC power (110 – 220 VAC @ 50 – 60 Hz .) and provides a 12 or 24-volt DC output to power a NetFORCE™ system. Direct DC-powered installations (typical of mobile applications) are supported with two input voltage ranges:
Low voltage systems accept 8 – 16 volts DC and are designed to operate directly from the nominal 12-volt DC power common to electrical systems found in automotive applications and/or gas, diesel or propane powered industrial vehicles.
High-voltage NetFORCE™ systems accept input power in the range of 20 – 54 volts and are designed to operate directly from the power systems common to electric industrial vehicles. Electric forklifts, pallet trucks, marine and utility vehicles typically provide nominal 24, 36, 48-volt DC power. Please contact the factory for alternate input voltage requirements.
What are the features and capabilities of the NetFORCe7trade; Internal UPS?
NetFORCe™ systems include an internal battery-backed UPS which provides ‘glitch-free’ continuous operation if primary power is lost or interrupted. Full system operation is sustained for a minimum of 20 minutes. An internal battery charger replenishes the stand-by battery when primary power is restored. Front panel indicators display UPS charging status and operation.
What are the characteristics and specifications of the NetFORCE™ Internal UPS battery?
For general safety and certification reasons in industrial and military markets, NetFORCe™ systems do NOT utilize lithium battery technology for back-up primary power. The internal UPS utilizes a battery pack based on industry standard 'nickel metal-hydride' storage chemistry. The battery pack is comprised of 16 nickel metal-hydride cells (in series) providing a nominal voltage rating of 19.2 volts and a capacity rating of 1400 mAH. The battery pack also contains an over-temperature thermostat designed to automatically disconnect the battery pack in the event the battery overheats during charging or operation in environments that exceed system specifications.
What cabled and wireless network options are available?
All NetFORCE™ systems are supplied with a cabled Ethernet network interface which utilizes an industry standard RJ-45 connection to twisted-pair network cabling.
NetFORCE™ systems may also be configured for wireless operation through the use of a wireless network interface adapter installed into one of the NetFORCe™s dual PCMCIA slots. A number of industry leading (802.11 b/g/n) wireless adapters are available and are fully compatible with the NetFORCE™ architecture.
Can an external antenna be connected for wireless network connectivity?
Wireless system configurations typically utilize a PCMCIA-based RF network adapter with an attached “whale-tail” antenna housed within the antenna cover located at the top of the system enclosure. Due to physical location, intended use and RF range considerations, some installations require an alternate remote-mounted external antenna connected to the NetFORCE™ system via a coaxial cable. An external cabled antenna connection can be conveniently provided; please contact the factory to discuss your application and installation requirements.
What data storage options (FLASH and/or rotating disc drives) are available on NetFORCE™ systems?
Solid-state FLASH storage is strongly recommended for all mobile applications and any fixed-mount installations where environmental extremes of shock, vibration or temperature are present.
The NetFORCE™'s Compact FLASH slot is conveniently user-accessible and rugged Compact FLASH cards are currently available in 2, 4 and 8-Gbyte capacities.
For those applications where greater local mass storage is required, NetFORCE™ systems may be configured with traditional 2.5” IDE spinning drives offering capacities to 100-Gbytes.
Citadel warranties Compact FLASH storage for a period of 3-years (or 2-million write cycles); whereas rotating IDE drives are warranted under the terms of the drive manufacturer’s limited warranty.
What options are available to support operation in cold-environments?
Cold environment applications typically present two challenges: frost that obscures the system display and/or system start-up requirements after ‘cold-soaking’ for extended periods at sub-zero temperatures. Screen frost commonly occurs when a system is installed on a vehicle that frequently encounters extreme and sudden changes in ambient air temperature. This circumstance is typical of refrigerated and frozen-food material handling operations where a forklift vehicle repeatedly moves in and out of a cold-storage facility. NetFORCE™ systems are available with energy efficient heated touch screens that prevent frost or condensation from obscuring the system display despite extreme and rapid shifts in ambient conditions.
Outdoor and/or weather-exposed installations in cold climates may require system start-up after extended periods of non-operating storage at sub-zero temperatures. Internal system pre-heaters are available to automatically warm the core CPU and display assembly prior to initiation of the system power-up sequence.
Are sunlight-readable display options available?
Installations requiring use in direct sunlight pose particular challenges with regards to display contrast and legibility.
High-ambient lighting above 10,000 lumens typically compromises the user’s experience with traditional displays. Citadel’s NetFORCE&trade sunlight readable display option utilizes passive enhancements and advanced index-matching at the front-surface of the LCD display to reduce glare and maintain contrast under a broad range of lighting conditions.
